Current preliminary plans call for construction to begin during the summer of 2013, subject to project permits and financing, with completion expected by late fall of 2014. The Hotel Avery was originally approved by the Town of Truckee Planning Commission by a unanimous 4-0 vote on November 12, 2008.
The site of the proposed Hotel Avery is on the northwest corner of Brockway Road (aka Bridge Street) and South River Street, within walking distance to Truckees historic downtown and retail district. This is an important location because it offers the opportunity for visitors to walk to the downtown area without requiring the use of automobiles or public transportation. This reduces pressure on parking downtown and reduces auto emissions.
Hotel Avery plans to install a fully landscaped environment that will include: a public river access pathway culminating at a viewing area, an space for public art and a newly paved sidewalk/bike path connecting the bridge to the corner. The landscaped area along the Bridge Street frontage will finally implement some much needed public improvements on what the citizens envisioned as an important gateway corner to the Truckee River and Historic Downtown Truckee.
